FAMILY TIES – Playtime for Families ***NEW!
TOY is offering a new program this FALL for children AND THEIR families.
Introducing, FAMILY TIES – Family playtime for families. Once a month, from Oct – Dec, TOY will expand our education programming and welcome BOTH parents/guardians and their children to actively explore and create TOGETHER. In this nurturing environment, families will explore the fundamentals of creative play and learn theatre skills through games, improvisation, voice & movement and storytelling. Each event will allow adults and children to practice separately and come together to create a unique ensemble experience like TOY has never seen before.

For Gr K – 2, Saturdays, September 25, Oct. 2 & 9 from
10AM – 12PM. In-person at TOY (Allendale Theatre, 203 Allen Street, Buffalo 14201).
In this class, children will play pretend. An exploration of creativity through theatre vocabulary and exercises will open minds and also engage children in essential skills like listening, responding, working as a group and being a courageous decision maker.
For Gr 7 – 12, Wednesdays October 6, 13 and 20 from 5:30 – 7:30PM. In-person at TOY (Allendale Theatre, 203 Allen Street, Buffalo 14201).
For the teen who wants to explore the world of the play and dramatic expression. This workshop is for participants at any level of experience and young actors will explore vocabulary such as objectives, obstacles and tactics. Instructed by Chris Kelly, this workshop will prepare teens for auditions, school-productions and is great for community and professional theatre seekers!
For Gr 3-6, Saturdays, October 16, 23, 30 from 10AM-1PM In-person at TOY (Allendale Theatre, 203 Allen Street, Buffalo 14201)
How do we make plays believable? Your child will learn important acting fundamentals. Through listening, responding, and behavior based theatre exercises your young actor will learn how to make specific choices, follow through and explore and strengthen their creative confidence.
For Gr 7 – 12, Wednesdays, November 3, 10, 17 from 5:30-7:30PM. Instructed by Bobby Cooke and Matt Refermat. In-person at TOY (Allendale Theatre, 203 Allen Street, Buffalo 14201).
Whether you are a musical theatre veteran or interested in trying out this form of theatrical performance, students will practice and develop their performance skills through singing, dancing and acting. Instructors will guide the class through breath and body work to support the text. From process oriented exploration to solo and ensemble work, along with theater skill enhancement, this workshop will increase your child’s confidence for performance. All levels of experience welcomed!
For Gr K – 2, Saturdays November 6, 13, 20 from 10AM-12PM. In-person at TOY (Allendale Theatre, 203 Allen Street, Buffalo 14201).
Participants will spend mornings “OUTSIDE of the Box” engaging in theatre based activities that explore the use of the imagination and bold choice making skills. In this improvisation style class, your child will engage in thoughtful listening, creative thinking and working together as a group. Children will be encouraged to explore the many ways to express themselves emotionally and artistically.
For Gr 3 – 6, Saturdays, December 4, 11, 18 from 10AM-1PM. In-person at TOY (Allendale Theatre, 203 Allen Street, Buffalo 14201).
STUDENT FAVORITE RETURNS! This improvisational style class allows your child to learn and engage in “on your feet”, theatre based activities that explore the use of the imagination and bold choice making skills. From thoughtful listening, creative thinking and working together as a group, children will walk away from this workshop embracing possibilities.
